IMPORTANT MESSAGE!

THE GLORY IS A QUEER VENUE, RUN BY QUEER PEOPLE, FOR (MOSTLY!) QUEER PEOPLE.

WE HAVE A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY TOWARDS HOMOPHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA, MISOGYNY, RACISM & ALL FORMS OF ABUSE.

OUR STAFF, PERFORMERS AND OUR CUSTOMERS DESERVE YOUR UTMOST RESPECT.

IF YOU DON’T RESPECT EVERYONE IN OUR SPACE YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE.

THANK YOU. TEAM GLORY X

WHERE IS THE GLORY?

The Glory is in Haggerston in East London at 281, Kingsland Road. The postcode is E2 8AS. The venue was formerly called The Paradise Inn.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

Haggerston is on the overground (running all night at weekends).
Our stretch of overground lines goes: WHITECHAPEL > SHOREDITCH > HOXTON > HAGGERSTON > DALSTON > CANONBURY > HIGHBURY & ISLINGTON
(Whitechapel is connected to District, Hammersmith & City Lines. Highbury & Islington is connected to the Victoria Lin)

Or from Liverpool St hop on aa bus going north, it’s super quick – the 242 and the 149 drop you very nearby at the Laburnum St stop.
There are lots of ways of getting here so have a look at your Maps app.

HOW CAN I WORK AT THE GLORY?

For bar staff please email us a one side CV with a cover note about you. We are looking for LGBTQ+ bar staff with solid bar experience, lots of energy and an interest in the arts.

DOOR POLICY

We are predominantly an LGBTQ+ venue and door staff reserve the right to refuse admittance. We have a strictly no hen or stag parties rule.
The Glory is a strictly Over 18s venue and ID will be required, with a challenge Under 25 policy at the bar.

TICKETING

For any ticketing enquiries related to a show please contact the promoter or organiser of that show. We have lots of shows and each performer/promoter has their own way of doing things.

IS THE GLORY WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?

Sadly, The Glory was built in 1800 and while we’ve strived to make the space user friendly, there is no ‘easy’ wheelchair accessibility to all areas of the venue. The main bar is accessible, though the toilets are up a flights of 3 stairs with a handrail. Wheelchairs cannot access the toilets however.

To access shows etc. in the basement there is a narrow flight of 12 stairs with a handrail. There is another route down which has 3 small flights of stairs that are easier to manage for stick users

We are a higgledy-piggledy independent venue and, despite thorough research and site assessments from professionals, it just isn’t possible to make the venue anymore accessible until it gets fully renovated.

If you require further information or need to secure seating etc please email: info@theglory.co. Thank you, Team Glory.

CAN I HIRE TALENT FOR MY EVENT?

Yes. The Glory has a strong network of the scene’s best drag queens, hosts, musicians, DJs, comedians, bar staff and set designers. For festivals and corporate events contact John Nolan.

We are very busy so might not have time to assist with smaller requests but drop us an email and we’ll do our best, if you would like a drag queen for your party explain what you’re wanting and we will bulletin out to some of our queens.

IS THERE A DRESSCODE?

Come as you are, although looks are always encouraged! Management do reserve the right to reject entry based on dress that it is deemed inappropriate or offensive, but generally speaking you can wear whatever you want – we love a bit of a glam though, it’s The Glory.

IS THERE LOST PROPERTY?

Come into The Glory and ask about your item, or ring up in advance between 4 – 5pm. We hold onto found items for one week and then give them to Oxfam in Dalston.

OUR CHARITY PARTNERSHIPS

Our main chosen charities is Positive East and The Peter Tatchell Foundation. We have also raised money for and worked with 56 Dean Street, The Terrence Higgins Trust, Albert Kennedy TrustMermaids UK,

HOW DO I PERFORM AT THE GLORY?

For external promoters you can pitch in your idea, night or event to info @ theglory.co
Our calendar fills up quickly so make haste!

We do not cold hire drag queens who contact the venue, we scout talent via The Glory, our various monthly nights and competitions so get down and get involved.

We create:

LIPSYNC1000 – our annual drag queen contest, that only requires queens to perform one number to be in with a chance of winning a place in the major Grand final – this is a good way for queens to get noticed by The Glory and Jonny Woo. Most of our regular performers are former LIPSYNC1000 finalists.

Man Up – is our annual drag king contest, the world’s biggest and most sensational! Visit their Facebook page www.facebook.com/manuplondon. Happens in spring time with pop-up shows and takeovers throughout the year.

Werk In Progress is our monthly open-mic night. This is a good way for newer queens to get involved at The Glory and also for more established queens to try new work, as well as non-drag performers and artists. Contact @Xnthony on Instagram to take part.

Also see our variety nights such as ‘Baby Lame’s Shit Show’ (contact Baby Lame) and ‘BoiBo’ (contact Apple Derrieres), and ‘The Gold Rush’ (contact Taylor Trash), or ‘Princess Julia Loves’ – our Sunday salon which has drag guests and pop ups (ask Julia)

We can’t wait to see you!

FILMING AT THE GLORY

The Glory is available as a filming location and has appeared in numerous TV shows, films and music videos. To talk hire fees send info about your project to info@ theglory.co or for permission to photograph / film any shows – write to us explaining your intentions. Express permission must be given for all filming and photography.

For media enquiries and press video content ask for Jack.

CAN I RESERVE A TABLE

We do not offer table or area reservations, it’s first come first served with no priority given to anybody.

MAN UP – FAQS

Can anyone enter Man Up? Yes! All you need is a male alter ego who can smash it out the ball park onstage! In 2018 Oberon White was the first AMAB performer to make it into the final of Man Up.

Over 100 kings entered last year and the top £1000 cash prize was awarded to Louis F.U.C.K – the drag king alter ego of performance artist Evie Fehilly. Former winners include Elliot Hunter, Manley Stanley (Edythe Wooley) and John Smith.

Is Man Up just lip-syncing? No. Unlike LIPSYNC1000, which is a lip-sync contest, Man Up is multidisciplinary and the contest has featured stand-ups, dancers, clowns, some fantastic live singers and musicians, as well as lipsync assassins of course!

Follow the contest on the Official Man Up Facebook Page. Contestants for 2020’s tournament will be able to register their interest at some point in January, so keep your eyes peeled and get working on that male alter ego!
